Seiko 6602-9982
The 6602-9982 is a Seiko Sportsman, the hand-wound range that sat below the automatics, dated by the submitter to March 1970. The dial reads SPORTSMAN in script and 17 JEWELS over the factory mark, with an applied SEIKO, applied stick markers, dauphine hands and a framed date at 3. Inside is the 6602B: 17 jewels, 18,000 bph, hand-wound, with date. There is no quickset; the date is advanced by turning the hands through midnight. The case is about 36mm with 19mm lugs, and this example is on a steel bracelet the submitter says is original. Other Sportsman Calendar cases on the 6602, such as the 6602-9981 and 6602-7030, date from the mid-1960s, so check that the caseback reads 6602-9982.

How do I set the date on the Seiko 6602-9982?
The caliber 6602 does not have a quickset date function. To advance the date, you must move the hands back and forth between approximately 8:00 PM and 1:00 AM until the date rolls over.
How can I tell if a Seiko Sportsman 6602-9982 has its original dial?
An original dial has SPORTSMAN in script, 17 JEWELS with the factory mark below it, a framed date window at 3 and the dial code along the bottom edge. Compare the script and the small print under magnification against a known original; thick or uneven printing on the signature is the usual sign of a redial.
